Do you need new spouting?
LET US TAKE CARE OF YOUR RE-SPOUTING
Replacing the spouting on an existing home is not as simple as you may think. Over time, houses settle and move which can cause your spouting to hold water and make it difficult for the spouting to drain. Make sure you get a professional onsite as incorrectly installed spouting can become a maintenance nightmare.
Your new spouting from Highline will function well and adds that finishing touch to your property. Customers are always pleasantly suprised at how it lifts the appearance of the whole home.
Re-Spouting FAQs
Q: Do I need to tell my insurance company?
A: Yes. House and contents insurance policies vary, and it is always best that your insurer is aware. Highline maintain a Contract Works policy for the spouting or fascia work which covers our construction-related activities, however this excludes the rest of the existing home and the contents which will normally be covered by your insurer.
Q: Do we need to worry about the weather? What if it rains during the replacement process?
Q: Do you require scaffolding?
A: If your site is level and it is not an excessive height to the spouting, the work will be able to be carried out from a ladder. If the site is sloping or the spouting is at a height which is unsafe to work on, scaffold may be required to access it safely.
Q: I have overhead power lines; will this affect the work?
A: If the lines are uninsulated twin power lines which connect to the fascia directly under the spouting or are within 2m of the work area, they will either need to be wrapped or the fuse will need to be pulled temporarily while the work is carried out around them. If scaffold is required, they will require wrapping at your cost. You can find further details in the section: “What happens after I accept the quote” below.
Q: Will the spouting work interfere with my Sky TV or satellite dish.
A: Scaffolding can sometimes interfere with the signal. We will endeavour to complete the work as soon as possible to minimise disruption. Occasionally, aerials and satellite dishes can affect the correct installation of the new spouting. Our installers will do their best to reattach the aerial/dish, but a technician may be required to realign the aerial/dish, so it operates correctly.
Q: I have pets onsite, what do I need to do while the work is happening?
A: Dogs will need to be kept inside or on a lead away from the worksite while our workers are onsite, both for their safety and our workers’ safety. There can be nails and debris from the existing spouting on the ground animals could stand on. It is our policy to tidy up main thoroughfares straight after removal of the old spouting but it is difficult to get everything so care must be taken.
Q: Do you need access to the house while the work is undertaken?
A: Ideally if we have access to power and a toilet this is preferable but not essential.
Q: What happens to the old spouting material?
A: PVC Spouting unfortunately cannot be recycled in the South Island currently and we will dispose of this for you.
Steel spouting is recycled.
Copper spouting is also recycled, please let us know if you would like this to be left onsite for you to recycle yourself as it does have a value, otherwise we will remove and recycle it.
Q: Can I use the scaffold to paint while you are not on it?
A: Usually our scaffold won’t be suitable for painting, as it will be designed to access the spouting. If you want to be able to paint using the scaffold, we can have it set up to accommodate you. Just ask us, and we will provide for painting scaffold in your quotation and discuss the health and safety requirements with you.
Q: Do I pay extra scaffold hire if the work takes longer than expected?
A: We plan carefully to try and try and ensure that doesn’t happen.
If there is an unforeseeable reason for the scaffold to be up longer, we’ll talk to you about it. It might include changes made to your plans after the scaffold is erected, related to a tenant or for another trade (like a builder or painter), or you may need to make a variation to the scope of work for an unforeseen discovery (like asbestos or a building repair.)
Whatever happens, we will talk to you about it before changes or charges are made. If there is a hold up on the job which is our fault, we will cover the cost if it requires extended scaffold hire.
Q: When do I pay you?
A: We usually do not require a deposit prior to the job unless there are custom products required. If a deposit is needed, we will let you know when we quote.
The invoice for the work will be sent once the work is completed and this will be due 7 days from the date of the invoice.
You can pay by direct credit or contact us to pay by credit card. (Credit cards have 2.2% surcharge).
Q: What warranties do you offer?
A: We warrant our installation workmanship and provide a range of robust product warranties from the manufacturers of the rainwater systems we install.
Rainwater system product warranties generally range from 15-25 years.
Our workmanship warranty will extend 5 years from the date of completion.
Q: What colours are available?
A: You can see colour options here.
Generally speaking, the spouting colour is best matched to the roof. A contrast can also look effective, we have a range of white’s and colours available. Bear in mind that some suppliers have restrictions on certain colours which can affect the cost or availability. We can advise you about the ease of your colour choice.
Q: I can see colours listed on the Colorcote or Coloursteel website or Colour swatch but have been informed it is not available?
A: Some colours are made to order or have minimum order quantities which affect the availability and can make them cost prohibitive. If you talk to us, we can advise you about which.
What happens after I accept the quote?
Once a date is agreed, the general process will be something like this:
Disclaimer: The below is an average time frame for an average job. Jobs differing significantly in size, scope, complexity and access would mean much longer time frames.
Step 1: Confirm date of installation with you by email. The date is worked out around our current workload and other factors including when is the most suitable time for you or the tenants.
Step 2: Power lines wrapped (If applicable). Approx. 1 day to 1 week prior to scaffold erection The power lines are wrapped by an electrician prior to any work commencing. This is to avoid electrocution to workers whilst work is being carried out on site. This is required by Law. In some instances more than one line must be wrapped. Our cost for the power wrap is noted on our quotation (Typically $450.00 + GST).
Step 3: Scaffold erected (if required). Usually 1 to 2 days for average size homes .
Step 4: Job measured, materials ordered.
Step 5: Spouting and other works under-taken. The length of this depends entirely on the size, shape, and complexity of the house but most houses can be completed within 1-2 days.
Step 6: Site cleaned. The installers clean up behind themselves each day, usually stacking the old material in one area for disposal or recycling. On the final day all small debris and rubbish should be completely cleaned from the site. 1 day
Step 7: Job inspected. The production manager will inspect the job and the clean-up and have any issues attended to.
Step 8: Scaffold removed (if applicable). The scaffold generally takes 1 to 2 days to dismantle and remove from site.
Step 9: Final invoice sent. The job is then invoiced, and any variations charged at this time if applicable.
Step 10: Warranties applied for. Manufacturer warranties can be applied for at the completion of the project and take on average 1 to 2 weeks to be issued depending on the manufacturer’s workload.
Step 11: Warranties issued. We often drop these in person or if requested we email them.
We generally allow two weeks of scaffold hire to allow for inclement weather and other factors.
